From volunteer action to measurable impact

Measuring the impact of volunteering offers an exciting opportunity to better understand and celebrate the difference volunteers make.

For many volunteer involving organisations, the idea of “measuring impact” can feel daunting – yet another complex reporting task on top of already stretched resources. If can raise question like:

Are we doing this right? What tools should we be using? Will this be expensive? What even counts as good data?

The Measuring Change toolkit has been designed with that in mind. It takes you step by step through the process, using plain language, real-world examples, and practical tools that you can adapt to your own context. It’s for organisations that are just starting out, building new initiatives, or looking to strengthen the way they reflect on and communicate the impact of their work.

Pathways

Organisations have the options of two pathways for Measuring Change, designed to suit the size of your volunteer programs and goals.

Designed for small or volunteer-led groups with limited time or expertise, focusing on clarifying purpose, learning the basics of measuring change, and creating a simple impact framework.

Aimed at medium to large organisations with multiple programs or bigger impact goals, with guidance for embedding impact measurement into practice. It involves clarifying your purpose, aligning programs and resources, strengthening data and stories, building team capability, sharing insights, creating organisation-wide impact, and setting future horizons for continuous improvement.
